COLFAX - Touchet ran into a hot-hitting Colton here Saturday in loser-out Class 1B baseball playoff action.

The Wildcats pounded out 12 hits and took advantage of four Indian errors to defeat the Indians, 15-9. The loss ends Touchet's season with an 18-2 mark.

A Touchet error and control struggles led to three Wildcat runs in the first, as Colton got off to a 3-0 lead early.

The Wildcats added two more in the second and a singleton in the third to take a 6-0 lead.

"Every error we made, they (Colton) scored one or more runs," Touchet assistant coach Tim Henrichs said. "The error in the first led the way. Our errors killed us.

"(Starting pitcher) Tuff (Goble) struggled to find the zone in the first," Henrichs said. "But, give credit to Colton. They hit the ball hard all day if it was in the zone."

The Indians, down 6-0, struck in the bottom of the third.

Travis Fowler drew a walk to open the Indian third. Marshall Byerley doubled and Goble followed with a triple. Matt Kates added a single, as did Eric Hines. Byerley, in his second at bat of the inning, knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Goble doubled to complete the eight-run Indian uprising. Touchet grabbed an 8-6 lead after three.

Kelsey Cardwell came on in relief of Goble and held the Wildcat bats at bay until the sixth.

Colton exploded for four runs to wipe out the 8-6 Indian lead. Touchet answered with a single run in the home sixth and went to the seventh down 10-9.

The error bug raised its head again in the Colton seventh. Two Touchet errors led to five Colton runs as the Wildcats put this one away.

"Our outfield struggled," Henrichs said. "(But) we just got out played. Colton hit the ball hard all day."

Josh Straughan blasted a home run to lead the Wildcat power surge. Chase Druffel and Andrew Tietjen paced the 12-hit offense with three hits each.

Byerley, Goble and Kates led the Indians with three hits each. Jake Hodnefield picked up two hits, but the Indians came up short in their bid to repeat their 2009 appearance in the Class 1B finals.

For Touchet, the 18-2 season marked the end of careers for seniors Byerley, Goble, Fowler, Cardwell and Gus Rodriguez.
