SPOKANE - The Wa-Hi boys soccer team is done for the year after losing to Ferris, 1-0, in a regional loser-out playoff game here Saturday.
The Saxons' Taylor Siok scored the deciding goal with 10 minutes remaining.
"We played a lot better than last week," Wa-Hi coach Mike Washington said. "They just have some good players that are dangerous and number five (Siok) finally broke through against us in the end."
The Saxons are now 19-5 and will continue on a nine-game winning streak to the state playoffs.
The Blue Devils finished the year 14-5, and holding the Big Nine soccer league crown.
"We tried many times to get the equalizer in the closing minutes and tie the game," Washington said. "But we just weren't able to break through."
Marcos Medina, Salvador Esquivel and Adrian Tello all took shots on goal that came close, Washington said. All were unsuccesful. Wa-Hi keeper Andrew Glaeser had six saves.
Washington was happy with his team's season despite the departure from the playoffs.
"We didn't really expect to come in and win the league this year," Washington said. "We did want to make the playoffs and we did that. Now we have higher expectations and goals set for next year after this season's experiences."
The Blue Devils will lose three starters and two reserves to graduation.
Starters defenseman Juan Rojero, forward Rene Saladana and midfielder Joshua Bates are graduating, as are reserves Bregorio Bahena and Allen Alejandre.
Rojero was at a funeral and did not play Saturday.
