Evelyn Alene Harris

Evelyn Alene Harris, 95, passed away March 12, 2010, at Park Manor Rehabilitation Center. She was a four-year resident of Washington Odd Fellows Home, 534 Boyer, Walla Walla. She lived all her life in the Waitsburg area, mostly at 300 W. Fifth St.
Evelyn was born Nov. 21, 1914, to Alvin Peter and Addie Roe Loundagin. She graduated from Washington High School in 1932. She married Donald Gustav Harris in 1934. They moved to the family farm, Harris Ranch at Menoken, being named a Washington State Centennial Farm in 1985, still owned by family for over 125 years. Evelyn was a lifelong farmer, always supportive of Gus in their farming lives and his many activities. Evelyn and Gus were honored by the Waitsburg Historical Society as Pioneers of the Year. She was proud of her heritage, being one of the last living grandchildren of the large Geo. W. Loundagin pioneer family who homestead near Waitsburg in 1862. She was an active and faithful life-member of the Christian Church in Waitsburg. Evelyn was a member of Chapter BE, P.E.O., Sorotis Club, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 9, Washington Association of Wheat Growers, and many community organizations. She was involved in her daughters' lives and all their school and social activities. Evelyn and Gus spent winters in Mesa, Ariz., for 22 years and enjoyed traveling together. Evelyn enjoyed reading, music, especially piano, and her flower garden. She always brought in her own cut flowers to enjoy in the house. She also likes small animals, babies and chocolate. She was known as a considerate and polite person to whomever she knew.
Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Linda Ann Stonecipher (Bill), and son-in-law Kevin Blair (Cindy) of Waitsburg; granddaughters, Suzanne Stonecipher (Joe and son Sean) of Redmond, Wash., Carrie Trimble (Mark and sons Ryan and Alex) of Snohomish, Wash., Dawn Ronning (Alan and children Rebecca PFC U.S.M.C. Monterey, Cali., Caleb, Colton Elijah and Naomi) of Monroe, Wash., and Chris Blair (Kathy) of Spokane Valley. Also several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus, of 69 years, an infant daughter, daughter, Carole Blair; and sisters, Loretia Carpenter and Celestia Veatch Cameron.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 21, at the Waitsburg Christian Church at 11 a.m.
