Blue Devils named to All-Big Nine track and field teams


WALLA WALLA - Wa-Hi took some wins at the All-League level and awarded some of their own Thursday.

Blue Devils selected for the first team All-League were Jamie Weisner, in girls javelin; Brandon Porter, in boys javelin, and Garrett Gerling, in boys 110 meter hurdles and boys 300 meter hurdles.

Weisner was selected second team in girls long jump and 300 hurdles, and Jake Roberston was second team in boys high jump. Maggie Callan, Ashley Cornia, Kailee Davisson and Dominique Cox were all selected for the girls 4x400 relay.

Aaron Nelson was an honorable mention in the boys 3200.

Brandon Porter was selected Big Nine Conference Field Athlete of the Year. Porter competes in shot put, discus and javelin.

The Blue Devils also held their own award banquet Thursday night.

Gerling was boys MVP, and Weisner selected MVP for the girls.

Girls field captains are Allyssa Barnett and Sydney Christensen. For the boys, Alex Ceron and Brandon Porter took the honors.

In track, the girls captains are McKhayla Morris, Emma Burgess and. Rachel Adkins. Garrett Gerling, Aaron Nelson and Austin Schilling were selected for the boys.

Emma Burgess was most inspirational for the girls, and Gerling selected most inspirational for the boys.

Rookies of the year were Maddie Jacobsen for girls field, Rachel Nelson for girls track, Logan Reardon in boys field, and Jonah Hoe in boys track.

Megan Thompson was girls most improved, and Ryan Harmon was most improved for boys.

Wa-Hi tracksters head to regional competition in Yakima today and Saturday. Up to 10 athletes could be selected for the state meet, which is in Tacoma next week.
