June Hunter passes away May 11, 2010, at her home she shared with her son and daughter in-law.
There will be an Open House in her honor and to celebrate her life on Sunday, June 6, 2010, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the home of Jeff and Janis Hunter, 2159 Granite Dr., Walla Walla.
June Belvera Dimmick Hunter, was born in Dayton on July 21, 1922, to Aubrey and Marie Barger Dimmick. She lived in Starbuck in her younger years. After her parents divorced she and her mother would ride horseback from Starbuck to spend time on the Lostine River. Her mother married Louis Epstein and she grew up living on Clinton Street. June graduated from Walla Walla High School. She and John Henry Hunter married July 12, 1941, when they eloped to Orofino, Idaho. She worked various jobs while John served in the European Theatre. After the war, she and John lived on Tillimook Street. She was a homemaker and during that time their son Jeffery was born. In 1954 they began farming in Touchet. While farming in Touchet their daughter Jeri was born. In 1963 the family moved to the Mill Creek Ranch where they farmed for years. She lived at the ranch until November 2009, when she moved to town with her son and daughter in-law. She worked for the Department of Agriculture and traveled all around Eastern Washington interviewing farmers and ranchers. She retired in 1992. She served many years volunteering for the Red Cross and for the Democratic Party. She was active as a Lady Shriner while her husband served in many capacities. She enjoyed boating, bowling, snowmobiling and traveling. She and John traveled to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, Venezuela and Fiji.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeri Casali; her son and daughter in-law, Jeff and Janis Hunter; three grandsons, Jason Hunter of Seattle, Jon Allen Hunter of Spokane, and Justin Hunter of Walla Walla; one great-grandson, Joshua Hunter of Walla Walla; her brother and sister in-law, Edward and Marilyn Epstein of Portland; one nephew, Mark Houk; three nieces, Rachel Epstein, Lisa Epstein and Jayne Freeman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hunter, and sister, Sally Epstein Houk.
