Yamhill-Carlton downs Mac-Hi in state softball playoff

YAMHILL, Ore. - Mac-Hi's state softball playoffs ended with a 5-1 loss to Yamhill-Carlton here Friday, 5-1.

Yamhill-Carlton scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to hold the 3-0 lead before the Pioneers scored their run in the sixth. The home team plated two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

"We left four runners on, and anything we did hit hard went right to someone," Mac-Hi coach Nicole Christian said. "We didn't strike out a lot, we put the bat on the ball, but it just went to someone. It's a disappointing loss on the road.

"The seniors will be missed, and I want to wish them luck at the next level for those that are going on to play," she said. "This loss definitely motivates the underclassmen to put in the extra time, so next year we take the Greater Oregon League Conference and we don't go one an out at state."
