KENNEWICK - Wa-Hi golf coach Jim Smith had one key to Drew Reinland's second round at the Washington state Class 4A boys tournament at Canyon Lakes today.

"He needs to birdie a par-5," Smith said. "That should be Drew's strength, the par-5s (Canyon Lakes has four of them). He's got to go out and make birdies on the par-5s."

Reinland was tied for 23rd with six other golfers after a first-round 77 Tuesday.

Woodinville's Jarrett Foote and Bellarmine Prep's James Feutz led the field with 69s.

"He never really got it going (Tuesday)," Smith said of Reinland's first round. "He three-putted the first hole, and just could never get anything going."

Reinland was slated to tee off for his second round at Canyon Lakes at 8:24 this morning.

"He's pretty loose," Smith said of preparation for today's final round. "Yesterday, he didn't talk on the way over. We got him talking (this morning), and he's going to treat it (today's round) like a Saturday at Vets. He's going to go out there and have fun."

Reinland has qualified for the state tournament the last three years, and finished eighth last year.

"He's not going to give up, he's going to battle and play the game he knows he can play."
