EUGENE, Ore. - Mac-Hi's Emily Childers won the state Class 4A track title in the 400-meters with a time of 58.34 at the state meet at the University of Oregon this weekend.
"It was a beautiful race," Pioneers coach John Milleson said. "She made up all staggers by the 200 mark, and won by 5 to 10 yards."
Childers also placed second in the 200 in 26.32.
"Obviously, she had a fantastic meet," Milleson said.
Zach Conlee threw his way to sixth in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 7 inches, which is a personal best for him, Milleson said.
"He had two throws over 47 feet, so he's happy with that," Milleson said.
No other Mac-Hi athletes advanced to the finals.
"They had some PRs in some events, but it just was not enough to get into the championship bracket," Milleson said. "We had a successful meet."
The Pioneers lose just five seniors off the 43-athlete squad, he said.
"It's been a long season, the kids have worked hard and they deserve all the credit, they made it a great season," Milleson said. "I look forward to another year and giving it another shot. We should be strong again next year."
