Walla Walla City Council set to OK increase in levy

WALLA WALLA -- On Wednesday, City Council members will review and most likely approve a 1 percent increase to property tax revenues for 2011.

Since inflation for the 2009-2010 fiscal year was measured at 1.539 percent by the Implicit Price Indicator, state law allows city officials to increase the levy raised by property taxes up to 1 percent. The effect on property tax bills would depend on the overall assessed value in the city.

Public testimony regarding the levy will be taken at the Wednesday night meeting at 7 p.m. at the Council Chambers, 15 N. Third Ave.
