WALLA WALLA -- Kristian Hedine will pick up the gavel as the county's new part-time District Court judge, according to preliminary election results Tuesday night.
Hedine garnered 6,455 votes, or 59 percent of the total ballots counted. His opponent, Bridie Monahan Hood, tallied 4,466 votes, amounting to 41 percent.
During the campaign, Hedine touted his longtime legal experience and current position as a judge pro tem.
He will assume his elected post Jan. 10 when retiring part-time Judge Jerry Votendahl steps down. John Knowlton, the county's full-time District Court judge, won re-election Tuesday in an uncontested race.
