COLLEGE PLACE -- More details have been released about a vehicle-pedestrian collision Tuesday afternoon at South College Avenue and Southwest 13th Street.

A boy who is almost 2 ran into the street and was struck by a car driven by Elwood Boyd of 1122 Broadway Ave. at about 4 p.m., police said in a news release.

According to witnesses, Boyd -- who was traveling south on College at about 20-25 mph -- didn't see the child and said the sun was in his eyes, the news release says.

The mother of the boy, who was not identified, ran to him and took him to the curb.

The child first was transported to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, then flown to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital in Spokane as a precaution and for further treatment.

The injuries did not appear to be life threatening, according to the news release.
