SPOKANE - Lino Diaz scored twice, once in each half, to lead Waitsburg-Prescott to a 2-0 victory over Northwest Christian in 2B playoff soccer action at Gonzaga Prep Friday night.
The Tigers improved their record to an unblemished 18-0 and will face the No. 5 seed from District 1/2 Nov. 13 in the Tri-Cities at a time and site to be determined, according to athletic director Jack Smiley.
A win next Saturday would mean a trip to Sumner Nov. 19 and 20 for the state semifinals and finals.
Diaz scored his first goal two minutes after the opening whistle and added his second in the 42nd minute.
Miguel Velazco assisted on the first goal and Omar Virgen set up the latter Diaz tally.
W-P had seven shots on goal compared to three for Northwest Christian.
"Our defense was outstanding - led by captain Jairo Gonzalez," Smiley said. "Jared Morris, Jose Esquival, Kevin Ortega, Francisco Gonzalez, Cesar Munguia and Raul Contreras played key roles in the shutout defense. Goalie Pedro Mendoza was superb."
