Dottie Van Dyke

Dottie Evaline Van Dyke, 94, slipped quietly into glory to be reunited with her husband of 72 years and her two daughters on Nov. 7, 2010. The funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St., Walla Walla. Memorial contributions may be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice through the funeral home.
Dottie was born to Ted and Agusta Mae Morton Goff on Sept. 24, 1916, in Oaks, Okla. She was raised in Oaks and other parts of Oklahoma until the age of 14 when she moved to Colorado. She was the oldest of 11 siblings, whom she helped raise.
On Dec. 19, 1932, she married Walter B. Van Dyke in Lamar, Colo. They were married for 72 years and had seven children. They moved to Walla Walla in 1956. She worked at the Washington Odd Fellows for 13 years. Dottie was a member of the Amazing Grace Church of the Nazarene where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of WCTU. She enjoyed the outdoors, wildlife, bird watching and most of all, family gatherings with her large family. She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother and grandmother.
Dottie is survived by five of her children, Walter B. Van Dyke Jr., Allen P. and wife Evelyn Van Dyke, Stanley H. and wife Winnie Van Dyke, Terry B. Van Dyke and Hope and husband Don Besse; one brother, Alfred Culbertson; 21 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; one brother; four sisters; one grandson; and two daughters.
