Pomeroy in consolation bracket at state tourney

The Pirates play Colton this morning after splitting their Thursday volleyball matches.

YAKIMA - Pomeroy's volleyball team faced Colton this morning for the chance to play in the fifth-eighth-place match this afternoon after splitting on the first day of the State Class 1B tournament at the SunDome here Thursday.

The Pirates lost their tourney opening match to Wilbur-Creston in five sets, 25-19, 21-25, 11-25, 25-23, 15-12.

In the first round of consolation play, Pomeroy swept past Crescent, 25-19, 25-16, 25-9.

That set the Pirates up against Colton at 10:30 this morning. Colton fell to Christian Faith in five sets in its opener before sweeping Three Rivers Christian to advance.

The winner of that match plays the winner of the Klickitat-Northport match for fifth place at state.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline and Christian Faith won all three of their matches Thursday to play for the state championship at 6:30 p.m. today.
