WALLA WALLA -- Two brothers who allegedly have been providing alcohol for teen parties at their residence have been arrested following the report of a sexual assault there, police said.
Detectives arrested Frank J. Avbel, 24, and Allan F. Avbel, 22, of 306 Craig St., on Thursday night after a two-week investigation.
Patrol officers had responded to the residence shortly after midnight Oct. 24 after a parent reported a sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl who had been partying at the home, according to a news release by Officer Tim Bennett.
During the investigation, the case detective interviewed several witnesses and two 14-year-old girls. During the interviews, information was obtained that the Avbels allegedly had been having sexual contact with the girls. The Avbels also had been providing alcohol including beer, wine coolers and vodka for teen parties at their residence on numerous occasions, the news release says.
The suspects were interviewed and provided statements before their arrests. One of the suspects said that during the party Oct. 24, all of the females were younger than 21 and at least four were 14. All of the minors were allegedly provided alcohol by the Avbels.
Frank Avbel was booked into the County Jail on investigation of 30 counts of third-degree rape of a child related to the numerous alleged contacts with one of the girls. Allan Avbel is being held on suspicion of one count of the same offense related to an encounter with the other girl, police said.
Police reportedly have responded to the residence 16 times since 2009 for calls ranging from assaults to burglaries and liquor violations.
Apparently the Avbels' parents, who own the home but are often out of town, were not aware of the alleged crimes.
Detectives are asking for help from any teens or parents who may have information about criminal activity during the frequent parties at the home. Also, parents are reminded to talk to their teens about the negative consequences of alcohol use and to know who their children's friends are.
