Dentists help send orchestra to Europe

Proceeds from a tooth-whitening special will help put smiles on the faces of orchestra members at the Walla Walla Valley Academy.

As a fundraiser to help send the 30 string players from the College Place high school to Europe next year, several dental offices will donate funds from the special.

The custom take-home trays, which include professional-strength whitening gel, typically run around $300, said a fundraiser announcement. But the following participating dentists will offer them for $149 through the end of December: Dr. Donald Bassham; Drs. Ron Will and Geoff Stuart of Blue Mountain Dental Care; Dr. William B.L. Murdoch; Dr. Randy Pearson; Dr. Eric Gustavsen of Southpoint Dental Center; Dr. Cameron Stewart; and Drs. David Hernandez, Don Kellogg, David Kellogg and Julie Kellogg of Tietan Dental Team.

The Walla Walla Valley Academy orchestra is led by Director Ben Gish, assistant principal cellist for the Walla Walla Symphony, director of the Walla Walla Symphony Youth Orchestra, director of the Walla Walla Suzuki Institute and artist-in-residence at Walla Walla University.

A 10-day trip in June to visit and perform is planned to three cities that epitomize classical music: Dvorak's Prague, Beethoven's Vienna and Mozart's Salzburg.

Guests at the Marcus Whitman Hotel amp; Conference Center's Nov. 25 buffet won't just be celebrating Thanksgiving, they'll be part of a special anniversary.

This year is the 10th the historic hotel has served its Thanksgiving buffet. More than 7,500 guests have partaken of it over that period, said hotel owner and General Manager Kyle Mussman.

An estimated 750 attendees are expected to eat this year's Thanksgiving buffet, noon to 4 p.m. The menu includes roast turkey, beet confit, apple stuffed porkloin, turkey empanadas, acorn squash soup, sourdough and sage stuffing and whipped russets. Desserts include an array of pies, cakes and mousse.

The cost is $32.95 for adults; $27.95 for seniors; $19.95 for children 6-12; and free under 5. Advance reservations required. Call 524-5139.

A Walla Walla tasting room will also be providing some wining and dining for Thanksgiving.

Walla Faces will serve a five-course meal paired with its own wines as well as wines from Sinclair Estate Vineyards. Dinner will be prepared by Ceil Blaine and will be served at the tasting room at 216 E. Main St. starting at 5:30 p.m.
