WALLA WALLA -- An early-morning fire gutted a woodworking shop on Avery Street today.
Deputy Chief Brad Morris said Walla Walla Fire Department units were dispatched to 218 Avery St. at 1:08 a.m. after a person called 911 to report smoke coming from a shed at Bechtel's Woodworking and Stain Shop.
Upon arrival firefighters found flames coming through the roof of a 40-foot by 100-foot shop attached to the back of another building that also belongs to the same business. Firefighters from College Place and Fire District 4 were also called to the scene for mutual aid.
The fire was brought under control at 1:44 a.m., Morris said. Damage is estimated at $80,000 for the structure and $210,000 for contents. The fire is under investigation and the cause is unknown at this time.
