Pilot of crashed airplane identified

WALLA WALLA - A pilot who died in an airplane crash Sunday south of Pendleton has been identified as Bruce Cummings of Enterprise, Ore.

According to the Wallowa County Chieftain, a staff member at Cummings' dental practice in Enterprise confirmed he was the crash victim. There were no others in the single-engine airplane Cummings was flying.

Cummings had taken off from Walla Walla Regional Airport Sunday morning en route to Enterprise. A search began Sunday night after a family member called the Umatilla County Sheriff's Office at 6 p.m. that night to report Cummings had not arrived at his destination.

A Civil Air Patrol crew discovered the wreck this morning near Indian Lake, about 34 miles southeast of Pendleton.

According to Chieftain article, Cummings had been owner of the Wallowa Valley Dental Clinic for more than 10 years.
