WALLA WALLA -- The Walla Walla Symphony will present an informal concert for families at 7 p.m. Thursday in Cordiner Hall on the Whitman College campus

The admission fee is a nonperishable food or personal hygiene item per person.

Maestro Yaacov Bergman will conduct "Mr. Smith's Composition" by Gregory Smith, a story of how a composer writes a piece of music. The piece will be narrated by Kevin Loomer.

Composer Gwyneth Walker's new piece, "Blessings From the Children," will be performed by the Symphony and Rogers Adventist School's Singing Scholars, directed by Terry Koch.

Items gathered as admission will be donated to Blue Mountain Action Council Food Bank. Dress is casual.

The food bank needs protein foods such as tuna fish and peanut butter, and items easy for children to prepare when they are home alone.

Also needed are hygiene items such as toothpaste, deodorant and shampoo.
