COLLEGE PLACE -- Davis Elementary will remain closed through Monday, and resume classes on Tuesday, if repair on the school's heating system goes as scheduled.
College Place Public Schools Superintendent Tim Payne said the district is waiting for the arrival of equipment to get the school's heat exchanger working again. The system failed Nov. 19, the last day of school before the start of the Thanksgiving holiday for students. Although students did not attend school this week, teachers conducted conferences with parents -- in chilly classrooms -- early in the week.
Payne said the district expected to receive the repair parts this week, but the shipment got delayed in Salt Lake City, after traveling from Ohio, because of severe weather conditions.
The shipment now has a delivery date of Monday, with the repair expected to be finished the day it arrives. Students will end up missing an extra day of school, but Payne said the skipped day will be made up at some point in the school calendar.
