WALLA WALLA - Applicants are being sought to fill three openings on the Civil Service Commission for the county Sheriff's Office.
The three-member board makes rules and regulations for Sheriff's Office personnel consistent with state statutes and oversees personnel administration. This includes examinations of applicants, appointments, promotions, demotions, suspensions and discharges of sheriff's employees.
The commission also conducts hearings and investigations and ascertains that all applicable rules and regulations are obeyed by sheriff's employees.
Appointees will serve staggered terms, with one term for two years, one for four years and one for six years.
At the time of appointment, not more than two commissioners are allowed to be adherents of the same political party.
No member after appointment may hold any salaried public office or engage in county employment outside of his or her duties with the commission.
Members of the commission serve without compensation.
They must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of Walla Walla County for at least two years before their appointment and registered as a voter in the county.
The deadline for applying is Dec. 10.
Applications are available at the county commissioners' office in the Public Health and Legislative Building, 314 W. Main St., or can be downloaded from the county's website at www.co.walla-walla.wa.us.
