Equipment delay forces Davis Elementary to close another day

COLLEGE PLACE - A delay in the arrival of equipment to repair the heating system at Davis Elementary will force the school to close another day.

Superintendent Tim Payne said Davis students will have to miss school Tuesday following a continued delay in the shipment of a part needed to fix the school's heat exchanger, which works with the building's boiler to heat the school.

Davis students were supposed to return to classes Monday following a week off for parent-teacher conferences and the Thanksgiving holiday. The school's heat malfunctioned the day children got out for vacation. Although the repair parts were ordered early on, problem weather has delayed it's shipment, Payne said.

Payne canceled school for Davis students when it became clear the system would not be up and running in time for the arrival of children. A further delay in the shipment has extended the school cancellation into Tuesday. Students at the district's other schools - Meadow Brook Intermediate and Sager Middle School - returned to school as scheduled.

Payne said he was hopeful the heating repairs would be made and finished on Tuesday, although it was unclear if the part would arrive on time given another winter storm scheduled to hit Monday night.
