Rafael Badillo of Milton-Freewater passed away Sept. 30, 2010, at his home at the age of 79 years. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at 7 p.m. at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, Ore. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Milton-Freewater. Interment will follow at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in memory of Rafael Badillo to the Walla Walla Community Hospice in care of the funeral home.
Rafael Badillo was born on Oct. 24, 1930, the son of Jose and Lazara Armijo Badillo in Edinburg, Texas. He attended schools in Edinburg and later married Maria S. Partida on Aug. 18, 1956, in Pasco, Wash. Together the couple traveled back and forth from Texas to Milton-Freewater, where Rafael worked for fruit farmers during the crop seasons. He worked for Sam LeFore in the Milton-Freewater area for many years. Rafael was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church. He loved sports and enjoyed watching the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys. Rafael also loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends. He will always be remembered as a dedicated worker.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Maria Badillo of Milton-Freewater; children, Gilbert and Marina Badillo, Gracie and Carlos Cortez and Nora Carrillo, all of Milton-Freewater; grandchildren, Erik Cortez, Aleksander Cortez, Nikolaus Cortez and Karli Cortez Kariss Carrillo, Kobee Carrillo, Gilberto Badillo, Estrellita Badillo and Lebron Badillo; great-grandchild, Eryka Cortez; sister, Carmen Garica of Edinburg, Texas; brother, Julian Badillo of Edinburg, Texas; and several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. His parents; sisters, Cira Alvarado, Natalia Rios; brother, Rosario Rios; and a nephew, Roy Rios, Jr.; all preceded him in death.
