WALLA WALLA - Walla Walla Valley Academy won a five-set competition Thursday at home over DeSales 25-23, 24,26, 25-21, 15-25, 16-14.
"It was a struggle for us," said WWVA head coach Scot Schafer. "We really didn't get going until the fifth game, but we were able to stay mentally tough and pull through."
WWVA was led by 17 kills from Kelsie Schafer, two blocks from Amanda Birney, 28 assists from Brooklyn Larson and four aces from Bri Leen.
"It was a great game, and it could have gone either way," said DeSales head coach Lori Blanc. "It was a close match all the way, but we just couldn't pull it out."
DeSales was led by 11 kills from Megan Moberg and nine finishes from Annie Higgins and Stephanie Ferrel. The Irish also got seven kills from Abby Lareau and 30 assists from Chantel Blanc,
"DeSales played a great game," Schafer said. "They were focused through out and took advantage of our passing struggles. It wasn't our best game, but a win is a win."
The victory moves WWVA to 4-2 in league play, heading into a match Tuesday at Asotin.
