Mac-Hi girls soccer team takes 2-0 Homecoming win

MILTON-FREEWATER - Freshman Veronica Garcia tallied goals in each half here Saturday afternoon to lead Mac-Hi to a 2-0 Homecoming victory over Ontario in a Greater Oregon League girls soccer match at Shockman Field.

The Pioneers improved to 2-0 in the GOL and 6-0-1 overall.

Garcia scored her first goal off an Emily Childers assist at the 20-minute mark of the contest.

"It (Childers' assist) was a through ball from the midfield," Mac-Hi coach Martin Martinez said. "Veronica beat the defender on her run and knocked it in."

Shawney Garcia set up Veronica Garcia for her second-half tally.

"It (the second-half goal) was pretty much the same," Martinez said. "Veronica cut through the back side and pushed it in.

"We dominated the game and controlled the tempo, but could not find the net (consistently)," Martinez said. "It was a good game for us. We knew it was going to be a hard week, but they came through and got a win."

The Pioneers continue GOL play Thursday at La Grande.
