ENTERPRISE, Ore. - Mac-Hi's cross country boys and girls teams participated in a six-team tournament at Enterprise Friday, posting a number of strong times.
The boys' squad finished second overall, led by John Lonai's 19:11 and seventh place. He was quickly followed by Lucas Simpson, who was eighth in 19:19. Kayeb and Jason Taylor finished 13th and 16th, respectively, with sub-21 minute times, while David Camarena was 21st with a time of 21:35.
"We're coming together as a team," said Mac-Hi head coach John Milleson. "We had some times that really stood out for us."
On the girls side, Emily Childress finished third with a time of 22:13 and Kathleen Hopkins placed 11th, posting a time of 26:03.
"Where Emily finished is what we expect of her," Milleson said. "However, Kathleen was a nice surprise."
The Pioneers next meet is Saturday in La Grande.
