WALLA WALLA - Walla Walla Community College notched its first NWAACC Eastern Region volleyball victory of the season Friday night - a 26-24, 25-19, 25-21 win over Big Bend at the Dietrich Dome.
Nikki Long had 16 kills, nine digs and four blocks for the Warriors. Kayla Hanus recorded 40 assists, two aces, seven digs, and two blocks, and Corrine Holbrook contributed seven kills and two blocks.
"This may have been the best match of Nikki's career," WWCC coach Tim Toon said. "Kayla was complete and exceptional in every statistical category. She spread the ball around nicely and our hitters had a termination attitude. Corrine put down some balls at critical times."
Other statistical leaders for Walla Walla were Danielle Meehan with seven kills and an equal number of blocks, Carley Miller with 13 digs, and Libby Kern with six kills and five blocks.
"We really needed this win," Toon said. "The players have been training very hard in practice and our leaders are starting to step up and take action.
"This season is not lost," Toon said. "We are going to have a great finishing run while knocking off some of the top teams in the NWAACC.
"Our attacking numbers were outstanding," Toon said.
The Warriors play at Treasure Valley on Wednesday.
"With only one match next week, we will be able to train hard and fix some of our problem areas," Toon said. "If we can beat Treasure Valley, we will still have a shot at making the playoffs."
