McMINNVILLE, Ore. - An early goal by Julianne Masser, her fourth of the season, wasn't nearly enough as Linfield roared back to take a 5-1 Northwest Conference soccer victory from Whitman College here Sunday afternoon.

Masser, a sophomore, gave Whitman a 1-0 lead at the 14:45 mark of the first half, taking a crossing pass from junior Amy Hasson and lifting the ball over the keeper's head into the right corner of the net.

Linfield wasted little time getting the equalizer. Less than two minutes later, in fact, Rachel Miles knocked a grounder past Whitman's keeper to even the score at 1-1.

The Wildcats took charge later in the half, bunching a pair of goals in a three-minute span to lead 3-1 at the break.

Two more goals in the second half, one in the 62nd minute and one with less than five minutes left in the game, completed the runaway Linfield victory.

Linfield was credited with 25 shots, 17 of which were on goal. Whitman finished with 10 shots, five in each half.

The Missionaries play their next two games at home, starting with a noon game next Sunday against Lewis & Clark.
