BIG "A" - DON ANGOTTI

February 18, 1932 - September 28, 2010

Donald Robert Angotti, 78, passed away on September 28, 2010 at St. Mary Medical Center. Don was born on February 18, 1932 in Walla Walla to Tony & Emma Ringer Angotti. Don's roots began and stayed in Walla Walla; he attended Walla Walla schools and graduated from St. Pat's in 1950. He went on to serve in the Navy during the Korean War. After returning, he married Jan Sherwood in 1956 at St. Francis Church. They were married for 53 plus years. Don started his career with Cascade Natural Gas in Walla Walla in 1955. They were transferred to multiple locations throughout Washington State including: Moses Lake, Tri-Cities, Mount Vernon, then finally back to Walla Walla. He retired in 1996.

Don was an outgoing and welcoming person - he never met a stranger. He loved conversations and good food, impromptu visits around Walla Walla, willingness to step up when something was needed, his generous nature, his ability to sell anything to anyone, and his political views were just of few of the attributes that were by nature "Don Angotti." As a true Republican, he was sure to let you know when you were on the wrong side. Whether it was at Coffee in the morning, through the millions of e-mails he sent, the American flag he mounted proudly on his car, or when he was sitting in his den watching The Virginian, Don was truly one of a kind.

His love of sports could be found throughout his life. From playing in High School, to coaching any of his four children, or watching his 12 grandchildren, Don was everyone's biggest fan. It soon became apparent DeSales was the place where he could most readily share his passion for athletics. He was not shy about offering advice to the coaches during the baseball games and cheering the loudest for the Irish. Don's love of anything DeSales was something heard loud and clear; he was a loyal fan of DeSales athletics for over 20 years, and his family plans to continue his legacy. He truly loved each and every one of the athletes, and bragged about them often.

During his lifetime, Don belonged to numerous clubs and was the recipient of many awards and honors: Rotary International, H.O.P.E., Skagit Community Accountability Board, Blue Mountain Action Council, ABWA Illahee Chapter, Italian Heritage, United Way, Skagit Utilities, Rotarian of the Year, Chamber of Commerce, City Council, Association of Washington Cities, Benton-Franklin Utilities Coordinating Council, Fred Berntsen Award, JTPA Service Delivery, Workforce Development Council, and Walla Walla community Work Source employer committee.

Don is survived by his wife, Jan, his sons, Steve (Kay) Angotti and Sandy (Amber) Angotti, and daughters, Sheryl (Steve) Durick and Melody (Stephen) Schroeder, his grandchildren Kyle, Jaline and Sean Durick, Jacob, Stephanee and Paul Schroeder, Travis, Jessica, Kymber, Brittany, Heather, and Nakia Angotti, his great grandchildren Maggie and Levi, his brother Dan (DJ) Angotti, his sister Velma (Jim) Gilliam, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and special, special friends. Don was preceded in death by parents Tony and Emma Angotti and an infant brother, Harold. His family and friends already miss him very much and are thankful for all the support.

The Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Assumption Catholic Church on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. A private family graveside will be held. Memorial contributions can be made to DeSales Catholic School through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St., Walla Walla, WA. 99362.
