Agnes Ann Huff, 101, passed away on October 5, 2010, at Eagle Meadows.
Agnes was born on April 23, 1909, to George & Mary Novak Pitner in Atwood, Kansas. She attended school in Atwood, stud- ied through the Chicago School of Nursing program and earned her certificate on Jan. 24, 1929. She & Garie Huff met when he worked for one of the doctors practicing at the hospital where Agnes was head nurse. They married in Au- gust 1931, while living in Stratton, Nebraska. They moved to Washington in 1936, where they raised five children and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1991.
One of her favorite remembrances of growing up in a big family was trips to town and church via horse and buggy. She derived joy and relaxation from growing a beautiful rose garden and raising vegetables. In retirement, she came to enjoy fishing with family and friends and traveling in their motor home. She loved going dancing throughout her lifetime, keeping up with the daily news, watching Mariners baseball and Gonzaga University basketball games.
Agnes easily made lasting friendships in life. She enjoyed playing pinochle, bingo, dancing or attending exercise class with her many friends at Eagle Meadows Assisted Living Community where she lived since Nov.2008.
Agnes' five children have raised 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She attended St. Patrick Catholic Church, loved the Lord, her family and ate healthy which she believed contributed greatly to her long life.
Agnes is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Jeanine Harold Rahn; daughter, Loraine Valencsin of Walla Walla; son and daughter-in-law, Gerald Diane Huff of Chattaroy, Wash; plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre- ceded in death by her husband, Garie; her parents; brothers, John, Ralph, Victor Baby James Pitner; sisters, Frances Kennedy and Georgia Sis; two daughters, Mary Lou Stine- baugh and Judy Branson; son-in-law, Ed Valencsin; and grandchildren, Debbie Bloch and Nicholas Valencsin.
Viewing visitation will be held on Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, from 12 p.m. until after the Rosary at 7p.m. at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at 10 a.m with Father Patrick Kerst celebrant. Vault interment will follow at Mountain View Ceme- tery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer's Asso- ciation, Walla Walla Community Hospice or charity of choice through the
Herring Funeral Home.
