RICHLAND - Waitsburg-Prescott sophomore Seth Deal finished a three-mile race in 16:22.88, taking first place and a new personal best, competing with 95 boys at the Richland Invitational cross country meet Saturday.
"Seth ran a very smart race," said W-P coach Joanna Lanning. "The second half of the race, he got out in front and then held the lead the entire way."
The W-P boys finished 11th out of 13 complete teams at the race.
Lanning said the No. 2 boy, taking the SAT exam, was missing.
"So that caused us to finish lower in the standings than we normally would have," she said.
Isabela Benito, W-P's lone girl, finished 11th of 71 girls in 21:23.36.
Matthew Montgomery was 67th for W-P in 18.57.05, Erik Sandoval finished 75th in 19:08.01 and E.J. Meserve was 89th in 20:36.15.
Districts are two weeks away.
But first is a league meet with all the schools at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
"I'm very happy with the athletes and we are looking forward to districts," Lanning said.
