WALLA WALLA -- A discussion on the effects of technology on young children will be the focus of the second annual "Our Kids: Our Business" luncheon Tuesday. Hosted by the Walla Walla Valley Early Learning Coalition, the luncheon will feature as its keynote speaker Dr. Dimitri Christakis, a pediatrician and expert on the media's impact on children.

Notable studies by Christakis include the finding that watching violent television shows as preschoolers leads to aggressive behavior in children later in life; and that videos geared for infants and toddlers to boost cognitive skills may in fact hinder them. He has also co-authored a book, "The Elephant in the Living Room: Make Television Work for Your Kids," on how parents can use television as an educational resource.

Tuesday's luncheon will be noon-1 p.m. at the Marcus Whitman Hotel & Conference Center, with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. Admission is $40.
