Arthur William Dirks, 78, passed away at his home on Oct. 8, 2010. Arthur was born on Oct. 29, 1931, to Arthur and Gertrude Schultes Dirks in Marion, S.D. He moved to Walla Walla in 1936 with his family. He attended schools in Walla Walla and studied violin at Whitman College. He married Arlene Hendrickson March 31, 1981. He was in the Air force in the early 1950’s as a tail gunner, a member of the VFW, employed by D&K Frozen Foods, American Fine Foods, and Brittany Farms. He loved listening to music and playing violin. He enjoyed boating and camping with Arlene in their motorhome. He loved reading the bible and sharing his knowledge.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 29 years, Arlene Dirks of Walla Walla; her six children, Randy Hendrickson, Wanda Singer, Donna Gleason, Steve Hendrickson, Sandy Long, Debbie Crawford; his daughter, Pamela Valentine; son, Mark Dirks; brother, Jan Dirks; sister, Toni Ross; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dave Dirks; and sister, Georgia James.

The memorial funeral service will be held at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Robert Kaye officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice through the Herring Funeral Home. Private Family Interment.
