WASHTUCNA - Touchet and Lacrosse-Washtucna had a good, old-fashioned fistfight going until the Tigercats' 24-point second-half burst led them to the 52-32 Southeast 1B-8 victory here Friday.

"It was a real typical, up-and-down the field game in the first half," Indians coach Gary Dorman said. "They'd score, and then we'd score. They'd score, and then we'd score."

The two teams traded scores throughout the first half, with L-W holding a 28-20 edge in the waning seconds of the half. Touchet quarterback Jake Hodnefield then ducked and dodged down the sideline for an apparent 10-yard touchdown, but was called out-of-bounds at the 1-yard line with no time on the clock.

"That was a real momentum breaker," Dorman said of the play, which left the Indians trailing 28-20 at halftime.

After the break, Hodnefield got loose for a 61-yard TD run as Touchet pulled to within 28-26, and then Cori Ochoa picked off a Jake Aune pass and returned it to the Tigercats 23-yard line.

"Give credit to them, they got a stop on us down there," Dorman said. "We were not able to get it in the end zone. They got the ball back, and we intercepted another pass. They stuffed us again, and then they scored, and scored."

Lacrosse-Washtucna outscored Touchet 24-12 in the second half, including 16 fourth-quarter points, for the final margin of victory.

Hodnefield ended up with 212 yards and three TDs rushing, as well as 118 yards and two TDs through the air.

And Dorman credited the Touchet offensive line with stellar play.

"They did an outstanding job blocking for us," he said. "When you get behind and they know you have to throw a little more, they get back in coverage and it makes it tough to find an open receiver. Jake had tons of time back there to throw the ball.

"Size-wise, again we were outgunned," he said. "They play with a lot of heart, though. I can't fault their effort at all. We're young enough and inexperienced, but we're getting better. We just haven't been able to put four quarters of football together. We're not there yet, but we're getting closer."

Touchet, 1-3 in SE1B-8 play and 3-3 overall, next host Garfield-Palouse at 1 p.m. Saturday.

"We're glad to stay at home for a change," Dorman said.
