Walla Walla workshop to give families tools to build healthy habits

WALLA WALLA - Building healthy families from health habits will be the focus of a free parent workshop Monday at the YMCA.

The Moms' Network and YMCA have partnered for the presentation, open to families across the community.

Participants will learn about starting healthy habits, get new ideas for activities for kids and practical nutrition tips for the entire family, according to an announcement from Beth Swanson, president of The Moms' Network.

The workshop, "Healthy Children - Healthy Families," starts at 5:30 p.m. with dinner. Active child care will be offered for those in attendance.

An array of speakers will address practical tips to educate families on the importance of health. Speakers include Mark Michaud, baseball coach for Whitman College and the Walla Walla Sweets; Christy Druffel, Activate America director; Becky Hermsen, Walla Walla County Health Department dietitian; and local dentist Rachel Deininger.

"We all have busy lives, but we hope that after this evening families can take home some new ideas that can get them thinking about the overall health of their family," Swanson said. "Plus the kids who attend are going to have a great time."

The workshop is free because of the support of a number of local businesses. The workshop is sponsored by the YMCA, Walla Walla Sweets, Whitman College Athletics, Sweet Basil Pizzeria, Book & Game Co., Northwestern Mutual and Basic Dental Care of Walla Walla.

To register, call the YMCA, 340 S. Park St., at 525-8863. For more information, call Swanson at 301-7471 or e-mail: beth@themomsnetworkww.com.
