Sunday Walla Walla fight believed to be gang-related

The brawl on Donald Street involved about 20 people watching or fighting, police said.

WALLA WALLA -- A large fight Sunday in Walla Walla may have been gang-related, police said today.

Public Information Officer Tim Bennett said police were called to the 100 block of Donald Street about 7 p.m. and found more than 20 people either involved or watching a fight in the street. "Many of the subjects were believed to be local gang members," Bennett said.

As officers arrived, the majority of the subjects fled. Two of the people involved continued to fight and had to be ordered several times to stop. An officer was also forced to use his Taser on a person who refused to comply with orders to leave the area.

Officers contacted and identified numerous subjects, but no arrests were made at that time, Bennett said. Two vehicles were also damaged during the incident.

The fight is being investigated by the Gang Unit of the department's Special Team Unit, Bennett said.
