Buckleigh DeWayne Jr.


Buckleigh (Buck) E. DeWayne Jr., 84, of Walla Walla, died Oct. 14, 2010, of natural causes at Walla Walla General Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at the V.F.W. hall in Walla Walla, Thursday from noon-2 p.m. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens.

He was born in Savannah, Ga., to Buckleigh E. DeWayne Sr. and Ollie L. DeWayne. He had two brothers; Robert E. DeWayne and Frederick DeWayne (who preceded him in death). He was married to Esther DeTomasi from 1950-1976. They had one son, Kirby L. DeWayne, born Jan. 29, 1952, (who preceded him in death in 1993).

Bud was a decorated Marine who served in World War II and Korea, earning several medals including a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in battle. He worked for many years at the Army Corps of Engineers as an engineer. He then retired after 40 years of faithful government service. Buck was a long time Walla Walla resident who served as an active member of many organizations including Elks, Eagles, V.F.W., Search and Rescue, teaching gun safety, and many other organizations. He also was an avid enthusiast of raising llamas here in the area.

Buck is survived by his sister-in-laws, Delorese DeWayne and Charlene DeWayne; nephew and nieces, Robert and Shelly DeWayne Jr., Harold and Theresa DeWayne and Jesse and Janice Tappert (DeWayne).

We love him and he will be greatly missed. He rests with God until we see him again in heaven.
