I have lived in College Place for over 15 years now and I am just amazed at all the mudslinging that supporters for both Walla Walla sheriff candidates have been saying in the Union-Bulletin.
I do not know either candidate, nor have I ever met them. I do know whoever wins the election and takes over will do his best job for the county of Walla Walla and all the people living here. I had lived in Southern California, mostly Los Angeles County, for 25 years and I have a dozen close friends in law enforcement there.
Having talked to some of my friends, they feel just because a law enforcement officer has worked in a large city does not mean he would do a great job in a small city. This is their opinion as well as mine.
I feel that Mr. Turner and Mr. White have good ideas, but we must all keep in mind that most of these ideas, K-9 unit, reserve program, adding more deputies are costly. Where is the money going to come from?
If we must pay for these programs with more tax money, then so be it, as long as our streets are safe. The thing that upsets me the most about this whole upcoming election are the supporters who are smearing the names of good, hardworking people in Walla Walla County.
After reading Michael Donavan's letter to the editor and showing his support for Mr. Turner, I was a little shocked to see that Mr. Donavon would come out in public and throw one of these hardworking people from our county under the bus.
Mr. Donavon demanded that Mr. Votendahl, a judge, apologize for some comment he made about Mr. Turner. Mr. Donavon never backed up his claim with what was said. Mr. Votendahl has been a judge in this county for some time and has helped many people in this Valley.
I think it was unfair and out of line for Mr. Donavon to demand Mr. Votendahl apologize, I think Mr. Donavon should apologize to Mr. Votendahl and all the great people of Walla Walla County for bringing Mr. Votendahl into his smear campaign.
I haven't decided who I am going to vote for, but I will base it on my own opinion and not anyone who writes a letter in support of either candidate.
Remember, the candidates are Mr. White and Mr. Turner, let's keep that in mind when you get ready to vote.
