MILTON-FREEWATER - Mac-Hi's girls soccer team shut out Greater Oregon League rival Baker, 6-0, here Tuesday.
Veronica Garcia had a hat trick for the Pioneers, with Belen Betancourt assisting on two of those goals.
Betancourt had the favor returned with a goal of her own off an assist by Garcia, Erika Torres had a score with help from Ana Bueno-Salazar and Niome Martinez got an assist from Emily Childers for a goal.
"The girls played a hard game," Mac-Hi coach Martin Martinez said. "The girls dedicated the
game to one of our defender's step-sisters, who died in a fire. They
just played their hearts out. They needed to get it out, and they demonstrated that. We outplayed Baker."
The Pioneers had 34 shots on goal, resulting in the six goals, while Baker was held to four shots as Mac-Hi's Kalyn Odman maintained the shutout in goal.
Mac-Hi, now 8-1-2 overall and 4-1-1 in GOL play, hosts La Grande at 2 p.m. Thursday.
