Robert W. "Bill" Leibbrand of Milton-Freewater passed away Oct. 17,
2010, at his home at the age of 75 years. A small gathering for family and friends will be held at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery on Thursday,
Oct. 21, 2010, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice or the Blue Mountain Humane Society in care of the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.
He was born on July 30, 1935, the son of Robert Edward and Marie Rauschkolb Leibbrand Ballou in Freewater. Bill attended Ferndale School and later graduated from McLoughlin High School with the class of 1953. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country for four years. Upon his honorable discharge, he joined the Milton-Freewater Police Department and was an officer for 13 years. On April 10, 1960, he married Eileen Jackson in Walla Walla. The couple had four children. Bill spent the rest of his life fruit farming in the Milton-Freewater area. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and enjoyed hunting and most of all fishing.
Survivors include his wife at the home; children and spouses, Tracy and Ken Arnzen of Milton-Freewater, Heidi and Rodney Shumate of Walla Walla, and Kristi and Jody Norton of Milton-Freewater; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His parents; a son, Billy Leibbrand; siblings, Lynn Ballou and Norman Leibbrand, all preceded him in death.
