WALLA WALLA -- The Rees and Sumach Community Garden will have several plots available Nov. 1, and is now taking applications for new gardeners on a first-come, first served basis, according to a news release.
The garden opened for the first time this spring and offers 30 individual plots, each 10 wide and 20 feet long, as well as several common areas where gardeners can work together on herbs, vegetables, flowers, and fruit trees.
The annual fee for an individual plot is $40, which entitles the individuals or family responsible for the plot to plant and harvest whatever they like for their own purposes, though gardeners are encouraged to donate at least 10 percent of their harvest to local food banks or those in need.
A plot application as well as garden rules are posted at www.reesandsumach.org.
People wishing to visit the garden are welcome to do so. For more information, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org, call 522-0399 or visit the website. Applications can be mailed to Rees & Sumach Community Garden, PO Box 1222, Walla Walla WA 99362.
