Diana Walker, 65, of Walla Walla, passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at her home.
Diana, called Deanna by family, was born in Walla Walla, to Dan and Violet (Alessio) Gilliam but was raised by her foster mother, Gladys Bochoven. She married Robert Walker (Bob) June 10, 1962, and while raising three of their children, completed nursing school in 1969. She then went to work for St. Mary's Hospital for 25 years pursuing her passion in pediatrics. Later, she followed in her foster mother's footsteps and opened her heart and home to foster children.
Diana loved many things. Having her family together. Playing video games with her grandchildren. Catching up on Facebook and playing computer games. Watching the Mariners and Seahawks, especially when they won. Attending events centering around her grandchildren. Going to the casino. And, doing for others.
She is survived by her husband Bob, at home; her daughter Daneitta Mertens and son-in-law Tom Mertens of Walla Walla; her son Rob Walker of Walla Walla; her daughter Sue at home; her daughter, Melissa of Oakland, Calif.; her daughter, Angie Williams of College Place; her sister Shirley of Walla Walla; her brother Stanley Bates of Walla Walla; her brothers and sister-in-laws, Jim and Velma Gilliam of Walla Walla, Dan and Adel Brown of Oswego, N.Y., and Jack and Sherry Smith of Modesto, Calif.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, and foster children. Diana was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Janette Martindale; and her son Jon Walker.
Funeral service for Diana will be at Herring Groseclose Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at
10 a.m. Viewing and visitation will be on Friday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Children's Home Society through the funeral home.
