PRESCOTT -- After a summer without operating the Prescott Pool, the Prescott Park and Recreation District is seeking a maintenance and operation levy for 2011.
The levy seeks $100,000 at a cost of 43 cents per $1,000 assessed valuation.
The levy requires a 60 percent majority to pass.
The levy money will be used along with any carry-over funds from the 2009 levy to operate the pool and Fieldview Park in 2011.
Two levies failed to pass in 2009, leaving the pool high and dry for the summer.
"The board of commissioners of the District has listen intently to anyone who had constructive suggestions as to how we could operate on a much reduced budget," board chair Joan Tatum wrote in an e-mail.
A group of Prescott residents offered help in operating the pool and park. A facilities committee was formed to lend technical and volunteer assistance to the board after the second levy failed.
"We are especially grateful for their efforts this summer to help us maintain the park. We are looking forward to a productive partnership in the upcoming year," Tatum wrote. With technical advice and volunteer labor the board hopes to operate using fewer tax dollars in the 2011 season, she said.
