WALLA WALLA - Paige Pontarolo tallied a goal midway through the second half Saturday afternoon that lifted Wa-Hi to a 1-0 victory over Moses Lake in a Big Nine Conference girls soccer match on the Wa-Hi pitch.
The win improved the Blue Devils league record to 3-7 heading into their regular-season finale at Eisenhower on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Pontarolo's goal was assisted by Maggie Callan, who lifted a ball into the goal area from the left wing that found Pontarolo's left boot.
"The girls played very (well)," Wa-Hi coach Jesse Cruz said. "The girls were intense. They have come a long way.
"We kept the pressure on them and composed ourselves," Cruz said. "We took their pressure pretty well and shut them down midway through the second half.
"The defense has been playing excellent during the entire season," Cruz said. "We're getting better on attacking. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel."
