MILTON-FREEWATER - Mac-Hi's boys soccer team dropped La Grande, 9-1, Tuesday, to continue its perfect season.
Oscar Flores led the Pioneers with four goals, Roberto Sandoval and Jose Herrera posted two each and Louis Saldana posted one.
"I played everyone and all the kids on the bench are doing well," said Mac-Hi coach Jose Garcia. "I wanted to test them for playoffs, but they're all ready and they responded well."
Mac-Hi has now played - and defeated - La Grande three times this season.
"I think (La Grande) played really hard," Garcia said. "They came out and played harder than the last time, because the first time we beat them really bad. This time it took us a little longer to score."
The Tigers' lone goal was a defensive lapse, Garcia said. Keeper Francisco Flores and a defender had a miscommunication and La Grande snuck one in.
Now 12-0 on the season, the Pioneers have cinched the Greater Oregon League title. They play the final GOL game of the season at Ontario at 2 p.m. Saturday but no other team is close enough to catch them, regardless of that game's outcome.
The Pioneers travel to Riverside for a non-league game next week.
"They always give us a good fight, so that will be a test for our playoffs match," Garcia said.
Oregon playoffs start Nov. 6. The Pioneers don't yet know who or where they'll be playing.
The boys and girls teams are hosting a fund-raiser Nov. 3 for the Meza family. The dinner is from 6-8 p.m. at the Mac-Hi cafeteria and costs $6. All proceeds will go to the Meza family and a variety of Mexican dishes will be available, Garcia said.
