After attending a candidate forum I have found that it is quite evident that in preparing to run for county coroner, Virginia Romine has done her homework. She has called or visited all of the coroners in the state. From these contacts she is bringing back to Walla Walla cost saving ideas for the coroner's budget.
For instance, she would look to negotiating a contract price with local hospitals for needed X-rays or scans. The Yakima County Coroner lowered his x-ray cost from $1,000-$2,000 per case to $400.
The county coroner makes the decision to order autopsies. Autopsies are expensive, invasive and upsetting to families. Sometimes other tests are available to obtain the same or better results.
Because of her background and knowledge, Virginia understands this and will use the most dignified and cost-effective approach. She also knows how to review medical records, interact with physicians, evaluate medications, and deliver services in a timely manner, while keeping an eye on dollars spent. For this she has my vote.
