Irene M. Buttice passed away peacefully on October 27, 2010, at her home surrounded by her family.
Viewing and visitation will be held Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St., Walla Walla. The funeral service will be held at the Blue Mountain Community Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Mike Hinrichsen officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice through the funeral home.
She was born in Clifty, Ark., to Hugh and Edith Richardson Worley. She moved from Arkansas to Oklahoma to Washington, attending various schools along the way finally settling in Walla Walla in 1948. She was married to Emilio J. Buttice in April of 1951, for 36 years and had eight children who were the focus of her life. In 1986, she attended Walla Walla Community College. She began a 10-year career working at Kmart where she learned to love clothing and helping people. After retiring from Kmart, she began working in the home health-care field taking care of people as her mother did. She continued to work until 2009, when she finally retired to enjoy her family and spend time with her amazing friends from church. Irene enjoyed spending time with all of her 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren putting together puzzles and playing games, especially with Brandon. The true focus of her life was her family including her church family. Irene was loved by all.
She is survived by her children Pam (Raleigh), Georgie (Doug), Cheryl, Jeff (Charlie), Greg (Jody), Rick (Kris), Chris (Dodie), 21 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, her sisters and brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith Leonard and Hugh Worley, her son, Timothy John Buttice, and grandson, Nicholas Raleigh Stone.
