ONTARIO, Ore. - Mac-Hi's girls soccer team closed out its league-championship regular season with a 5-1 win at Ontario Saturday to head into the playoffs on a high note.
Emily Childers scored the first goal of the game for the Pioneers, and Brittney Hall gave Mac-Hi a 2-0 lead at the break on a penalty kick.
"This was our last match, and it didn't really impact our playoff standing, but our girls still played very hard," said Mac-Hi head coach Martin Martinez. "We got the lead and then we held on to it."
After an Ontario goal cut the spread to one, Belen Betancourt scored her first of two goals, which was followed by Childers' and Betancourt's second goals to close out the scoring.
"Ontario got a little feisty at the end," Martinez said. "They were coming after us, but we used it to our advantage."
The Pioneers next match is Nov. 6 at against a yet to be determined postseason opponent.
