Joy Jeanette Kelsey
September 17, 1920 - August 31, 2010

Joy was born in Rock Elm, Wisconsin to Blaine and Clara DuBois Crain. She graduated from Auburn Adventist
Academy in 1938. She married Wilbur Melvin Whitney in 1940. She and Wilbur made their home in
College Place where they raised their 5 children with love and devotion. A lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist
Church, she worked to send her children to Christian schools. Joy Whitney worked as a licensed practical nurse
at Providence St. Mary Medical Center and as a beautician for over 13 years in the Walla Walla area.

After her husband, Wilbur Whitney, died in 1967, Joy attended Walla Walla University and Walla Walla Community College. She
then moved to Ridgecrest, California to live with family. There she met and married Dave Dugdale in 1969. Later they moved to San Diego,
giving art lessons and selling paintings, while traveling in Mexico as well as Europe. Dave died in 1991, in Indio, California.

Joy met Karl Kelsey, a wonderful man, and they were married in 1993. They were very happy together. Karl was 96 years old when he
died in 2004. Joy moved to Ritzville, Washington to live with her children in 2006, where she lived until 2009. Her final year was spent at
Party of Six, an adult care facility in Walla Walla, where she received the best of care.

Her hobbies included motorcycling, painting, sewing, baking and loving her children.

Joy is survived by her children: Melvin (Jo) Whitney of Washington; Billie (Wayne) McKay of Washington; Karyn (Steven) Phelps of
Texas; Karyl (Julius) Van Skike of Washington, and Jacqueline (Clarence) Uhrich of California; her brother, Joseph (Betty) Crain of Buckley,
Washington; her sister-in-law, Virginia Holdren of Marysville, Washington; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, two
great-great-grandchildren and four nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and brothers, Robert Crain
and Al Crain.
