ANDIES PRAIRIE, Ore. - Mac-Hi's cross country team finished second to Pendleton at a meet hosted by Elgin here Friday.
The Pioneers' Lucas Simpson was first overall, finishing the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes flat.
Simpson's performance helped Mac-Hi to 36 points, behind Pendleton's 31.
"He was pretty excited," Pioneer coach John Milleson said of Simpson. "He was a full minute-plus faster than he ran the course last year. He led from start to finish, and was only (threatened) by a Pendleton runner once. But he outlasted the (Pendleton runner) and won by 20 seconds."
John Lonai finished seventh overall for Mac-Hi in 20:30, Caleb Taylor was ninth in 21:24, Ethan Taylor was 12th in 22:14, and David Camarena was 16th in 23:05.
Also finishing for Mac-Hi were Jesse Sargent in 24:45, Will Hadden in 25:23, Tyler Edwards in 25:49, Tyler McElrath in 26:31, Jesus Saldana in 26:33 and Tony Ng in 29:14.
"Overall, I can't say enough about how the boys ran," Milleson said. "Our preseason goal was to win the district meet, and we need to improve every meet. They came out like a house on fire yesterday. It was a great day to run for us."
Mac-Hi travels to Hermiston Saturday.
